Megas / Excuse me while I puke

Director: Spessi Sigurþór Hallbjörnsson

The documentary covers a story of Megas, an Icelandic singer songwriter that is little known outside the island even though he is a giant in the Icelandic music scene, especially for his lyrics. His lyrics have been translated to english by John Grant in collaboration with Megas himself for the documentary. Megas has been praised and criticised for the lyrics and it has been said that he threads on a landmine and occasionally the mines explode. His songs have been banned from the national radio for being too crude or touching on taboos. The film has two timelines one that is framed in the twenty days rehearsal period for a concert and the other the forty years time frame around when the songs rehearsed were written. We don’t see the final result of the concert. We see the artists work on the songs with guidance from the composer who is now an old man battling with the aftermath of multiple strokes. We get in the forty year window a glimpse of the rebel, the punk rocker that was and the people he worked with.
